Aspöck UK, based in Great Hallingbury in Bishops Stortford, have received one of the inaugural Kings Awards for Enterprise in the innovation category, for an invention that is set to change the face of commercial vehicle safety.
Aspöck UK (daughter company of Aspöck Systems in Austria) have been at the forefront of commercial vehicle lighting in the UK and indeed Europe for many years, supplying some of the UKs biggest fleets with lighting systems, solar panels and cameras. However, it is not this area of expertise that has won them their award. Aspöck UK has been recognised for developing the World’s first RADAR based reversing aid for commercial vehicles with automatic brake function.
Reversing is the most difficult part of driving any vehicle, and with commercial vehicles it can be even harder. When you add in the articulation of a trailer it can be a challenge for even the most highly skilled driver.
The RADC has been developed to assist drivers reversing into loading bays, as well as in more public areas where reversing without obstruction could prove more difficult. The distance that the RADAR brakes at can be tailored to the clients needs, and integration of this invention into a fleet could save time and money, avoiding having to repair damaged vehicles after a collision. Not only that, the RADAR could be instrumental in improving the overall safety of a vehicle.
The RADC had been in development for some years before its release to market and its entry into the Kings Awards. A special mention must go to Mark Toghill, Sales Manager at Aspöck UK, who engineered this project and brought the RADAR into fruition.
Aspöck UK are entering their 21st ground-breaking year, and what a way to remember it. Managing director, Lee Rush, reflects on the success of Aspöck UK and what it means to win a Kings Award.
‘We are immensely proud that the RADC has been recognised under the Kings Awards. Aspöck has been leading the way in commercial vehicle lighting in the UK for many years, and we are very excited that we have now been able to apply the talents and knowledge of our employees to help improve safety in other areas of the industry. We hope to rewrite the standard for safety with this product, as well as forging long lasting relationships.’
