Members of Parliament are calling for a complete ban on the use of hands-free mobile phones while driving.

Earlier this month, the Transport Committee released its Road safety: driving while using a mobile phone report which details the potentially catastrophic dangers of using hands-free devices while at the wheel.

Use of hands free devices while driving has been legal since 2003. However, the committee is urging the government to place a ban on using any type of mobile phone as evidence suggests they create ‘the same risk for a collision’. There were 773 casualties on Britain’s roads in 2017, including 43 deaths and 135 serious injuries, in incidents where mobile ‘phones were a contributory factor.

Additionally, the Transport Committee is calling for the government to place stricter penalties for violation of the current law.
